It's been two years since Library Icons 2nd Ed. came out. This is, of course, too long, but things came up as they so often do. This release includes 918 icons in three different formats (Windows, PNG, and OS X), supporting the maximum resolution of Windows (256×256) and Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 (512×512). The PNG release is also 512×512.
Usage
Gnome: The PNG distribution should be compatible with Gnome if you are willing to do the work to build an icon set. I keep meaning to do this, but I simply don't know enough about Gnome's icon usage habits to feel comfortable doing it myself. The icons cannot be provided in SVG format because they are not—and never have been—vectors. If someone can come up with good instructions or an icon package for Gnome, I'll endorse it!
Web and Elsewhere: I have no trouble at all with people using these icons in their sites and personal projects, and in fact I encourage it as long as proper credit is given. Ports of the set to smartphone OSes are cool, too. I must insist that they aren't included in any for-profit works, however, as I can't fully verify the copyright status of some of the stock images I used in their construction, and I don't want to get anyone in trouble. If you wish to modify one of the icons or create a new icon that goes with the set, please ask me beforehand, as there's a very high chance I'll be able to produce a better image for you, and if it's general-purpose enough, I'll even include it in the next batch.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and happy modding!
thanks for the awesome work im updating the android version i made today out of your pack of course lots of people seem to enjoy their look myself included
Hi All! Is there someplace else that I can download the Library 3 in PNG? (Or can someone send the file to me?) I can't access either download links for some reason. Thanks! - Cgarduc
Wow! This is amazing work! As an iconophile with a genuine Steampunk interest, this is right up my alley! I snagged your icon list and Favourited you. I hope you don't mind.
Thanks for dropping by! I'm glad you like them, and I'll be sure to get around to the 4th edition sooner or later.
As for favouriting things, don't be shy in the least. Most Deviant Art users have hundreds of favourited submissions. You might also be interested in the watch feature, which lets you know when an artist releases a new work.
So quick! Usually the delay between discovery and usage is longer, I think. I'll try to make sure I add full-blown icons for the GIMP and CCleaner in the fourth edition.
I#m still learning to use DA, but I made a Ubuntu 10.4 icon theme based on your lovely icons and the Balanzan-theme, just by changing the original icons. When i know how to upload, i'll send it to you. Maybe you'll be not content, because there are some icons i had to make by myself. Please look over it.
